Student Collaboration at Edmonton's Riverdale School

On Wednesday, January 14, seven of our students were enthusiastically welcomed by the grade 5/6 class at Riverdale School to lead a beading workshop. It was truly inspiring to witness youth learn and collaborate to support one another to create lanyards using colours of the medicine wheel. Thank you to Karen, Monica and to Roxanne for coordinating this get together between our two schools.

Students Visit nâpêhkâsowinowâk ᓇᐯᐦᑲᓱᐃᐧᓄᐊᐧᐠ Art Gallery exhibit

Our thanks to the Art Gallery of Alberta for generously allowing our youth and staff to visit and experience two powerful exhibitions that explore Indigenous heritage, strength, and the modern warrior. Students were provided a tour by an amazing curator who provided details and context for the art in the nâpêhkâsowinowâk ᓇᐯᐦᑲᓱᐃᐧᓄᐊᐧᐠ exhibit.

“nâpêhkâsowinowâk explores the evolving meaning of being a warrior in today’s world through the eyes of young Indigenous men. Instead of focusing solely on traditional notions of bravery, the exhibition expands the idea of the “warrior” to include witnessing, recording, and bearing testimony to lived experiences.”

(If you can't attend the exhibits you can listen to an audio tour for nâpêhkâsowinowâk here: https://soundcloud.com/youraga )

School Music Funding Grant Successful!

We are very pleased to announce that teacher Matt Meeker was successful in his application for a MusiCounts grant for Inner City High School. MusiCounts supports Canadian music education with program grants for the purchase of instruments, equipment, and resources to make music education accessible, sustainable, and inclusive for youth nationwide. A grant of $16,017.70 was awarded to Inner City High School to help us upgrade our recording studios and set up instruments and equipment for our newly built second jam room. A very big thank you to MusiCounts for this transformative grant. These funds will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of many young people in our community.

Decked out — students and staff jam in one of Inner City’s jam rooms. Teacher Matt Meeker (third from right) submitted and was awarded a MusiCounts grant for the school.

Interested in Registering at Inner City High School This Fall?

If you are 15 to 19 years old*, you can register for classes starting on August 27, 2025. Before that time, you can add your name to our list and we’ll remind you about coming in and what you need.

Sign Up For A Reminder!

After August 27, come and see us at 11205 101 Street. If you have any questions on registration, you can contact the school at (780) 424-9425 or submit an inquiry on the Contact Form on our website.

STUDENTS 19 YEARS AND OLDER

Note: As of September 9, 2025, registering students aged *19 years old as of September 1, 2025 OR those applying for our Adult Education Program (aged 20-24 years as of September 1, 2025), will need to come to the school to meet with School Administrators Nikolai or Jen to discuss their registration and plans. If this seems like a reasonable registration that we can accomodate, we will set up an appointment for the registering student to complete an introductory meeting (intake). If the student has already completed an introductory meeting within the last 3 years, then we will discuss their application and either call them back to register with us or refer them to a different program.

*Remember our Registration Reminder Form lets you sign up so you are reminded what to bring on the first day of classes. Note: it does not register you. You have to do that in person with ID.

Group Home Worker & Case Workers

If a student has a Permanent Guardianship Order or a Delegation of Powers form they should bring that with them too. This is also true if a Mooshum, Kokum or Auntie are the student’s legal guardian - we need proof of that by way of documents.
