All-School Field Trip to TELUS World of Science

Some photos from our all-school field trip to TELUS World of Science Edmonton on Wednesday. After a hearty meal of breakfast sandwiches at school, about 55 youth and staff went by bus to TELUS World of Science Edmonton (TWOSE). By all accounts it was great day.

We extend many thanks to Aaron Kilian and the entire team at TWOSE for their generous contributions to our experience!

Especially grateful to Leigh Sheldon for her special presentation on two-eyed seeing and for sharing her beautiful song with our students. Some big thanks to Summer and Kim for engaging with students at the exhibits, too.

Our students and staff truly enjoyed the space and the special exhibits.

Student Collaboration at Edmonton's Riverdale School

On Wednesday, January 14, seven of our students were enthusiastically welcomed by the grade 5/6 class at Riverdale School to lead a beading workshop. It was truly inspiring to witness youth learn and collaborate to support one another to create lanyards using colours of the medicine wheel. Thank you to Karen, Monica and to Roxanne for coordinating this get together between our two schools.

Students Visit nâpêhkâsowinowâk ᓇᐯᐦᑲᓱᐃᐧᓄᐊᐧᐠ Art Gallery exhibit

Our thanks to the Art Gallery of Alberta for generously allowing our youth and staff to visit and experience two powerful exhibitions that explore Indigenous heritage, strength, and the modern warrior. Students were provided a tour by an amazing curator who provided details and context for the art in the nâpêhkâsowinowâk ᓇᐯᐦᑲᓱᐃᐧᓄᐊᐧᐠ exhibit.

“nâpêhkâsowinowâk explores the evolving meaning of being a warrior in today’s world through the eyes of young Indigenous men. Instead of focusing solely on traditional notions of bravery, the exhibition expands the idea of the “warrior” to include witnessing, recording, and bearing testimony to lived experiences.”

(If you can't attend the exhibits you can listen to an audio tour for nâpêhkâsowinowâk here: https://soundcloud.com/youraga )
