Thanks JShine Designs (Jess Sanderson-Barry)

Our thanks to Jess Sanderson-Barry for visiting Inner City High School last week to speak to our youth. She is a nêhiyaw-iskwêw, mother, Cree Artist, Hide Tanner, Knowledge Sharer and Facilitator from Chakastaypasin Band, in Treaty 6 Territory.

She creates wearable art under the name JShine Designs and is currently working out of Edmonton. Beading and working on hides have awakened her spirit and she expresses herself by creating beautiful adornments for everyday wear. You can see her work at https://jshinedesigns.ca. We also extend our thanks to The Canadian Native Friendship Centre for their assistance connecting us with Jess.

RDD Group Steps Up Again!

Another November thank you — this time to Edmonton's RDD Group. They are a family-run local area business that provides office/school supplies and imprinting and they have donated free school supplies to Inner City High School consistently over the last couple of years. Our thanks to their ownership and team for thinking of our students. 👋 🙂

Q & A With U of A Gynecology and Obstetrics Program Residents

Q & A With U of A

We would like to say thank you to the Residents of the U of A's Gynecology and Obstetrics program for their visit on November 13, 2024. They provided info and answered questions on a variety of health topics for their 2024 Advocacy Day. The program trains strong generalist OBGYNs and provides preparation for entry into subspecialty training. We thank the group for offering their time and expertise and coming to the school to share their knowledge.

ATB Place: Teamworks Helps Inner City…

Donation Drive Brings Warm Clothes to Students at Inner City High School

Downtown Edmonton’s ATB Place has a whole community of retail vendors that support local charitable organizations. This fall they launched a donation drive in support of Inner City High School. From August 14 to September 16, the building’s property managers, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc https://www.triovest.com and the ATB Place tenants collected a variety of support items that included ARC Cards for student transportation, nonperishable food, and lots of warm clothes for our students.

Our thanks to Paul Genato, the Tenant Events Coordinator from Triovest for setting this drive up, and, of course, a big thanks to the ATB Place retail tenants for supporting our school community!

Many Thanks to the Parkdale Cromdale Community League!

We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the Parkdale Cromdale Community League and specifically Bronwen, our League contact, for allowing us the use of their Hall’s kitchen. In late August, we received news that our school’s kitchen renovation was not going to meet its original opening target before school opened. Considering this, we had to find alternate remote kitchen space very quickly! The Parkdale Cromdale Community League stepped up and provided a commercial kitchen rental allowing us to maintain our weekday lunch and food service that is offered to 190 youth in our program. Their assistance addressed immediate challenges and we are very thankful for their assistance and support. You can learn more about the Parkdale Cromdale Community League at these links: https://www.parkdalecromdale.org and https://www.facebook.com/PCCLYEG
